HSE University attracts international students both from countries of the former Soviet Union as well as Europe. Anna Grokhovska (Latvia), a Master’s student at the Institute of Education, and Karina Samokhvalova (Kyrgyzstan) a fourth-year student in the Faculty of Humanities, share their impressions of studying at HSE and living in Moscow.

Monica Spychala (USA) is a double-degree Master's student at Technische Universität Berlin and HSE University’s Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK), where she studies Governance of Science, Technology and Innovation. Monica spoke with HSE News Service about why she chose HSE, what it is like to study remotely in the Governance of STI programme, and how she is already putting her knowledge into practice.
Though born in Ukraine, Roksana Ramirez has lived all her life in Bolivia. A native Spanish speaker, Roksana came to Russia with no knowledge of Russian. She is currently studying at the Graduate School of Business in a Russian-taught Master’s programme in HR Analytics. In an interview with HSE News Service, Roksana describes how HSE’s Prep Year programme helped her become proficient in Russian and how she is now mentoring current prep year students to help them adjust to university life.
The recently launched Master's Programme in Medieval Studies is the only Master’s degree in Russia fully dedicated to medieval studies. HSE News Service spoke with Juan Sota, a second-year student of the programme, about its unique features, interacting with professors, and his research interests and aspirations.
This year HSE University is admitting applicants to nine practice-oriented Master's programmes in sought-after specialities in IT, management, economics, and finance. From February 15 to February 20, HSE University hosted the Study Tour Experience for prospective international students of Master’s programmes. Due to the epidemiological situation, this academic year, the project was held in an online format, which allowed participants to attend lectures by all four HSE campuses within one week without even leaving their home country.
Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) has cancelled a 2-week quarantine for international students arriving in Russia. Starting from February 18, foreign students who were already enrolled in HSE University will be able to arrive to Russia and start their studies (in case they are allowed to cross the border).
