We invite international students to immerse themselves in an academic atmosphere and experience what it's like to be a student at Russia's best university according to Forbes Russia – HSE University, the only Russian university in the Top-100 young universities of THE Young University Rankings.

HSE University has traditionally had a reputation for being one of the most popular study destinations for foreign students. To prove that we have applications from nearly every country of the world received over the last five years.

In 2022/23, HSE University will be offering 45 English-taught master’s programmes in a variety of fields ranging from maths and economics to social sciences and humanities. International admissions are open until August 15, 2022 but early-bird applications will be eligible for full-tuition scholarships. Several first-year master’s students have shared their experiences of getting into the university and starting their studies.

Leticia Ines and Alejandro Perna first met in a Russian lesson in Buenos Aires. Now, eight years later, they are studying together in HSE University’s Preparatory Year programme. They spoke to the News Service about how their love for Russian language and culture brought them together and led them to enrol at HSE University, what their classes are like, and where they see their careers going after they complete their studies in Moscow.

Aleena Khan, from Pakistan, is currently pursuing a master's in Comparative Social Research at HSE University, Moscow. Despite studying online in the first semester, she already feels part of the HSE student community. In her interview, Aleena talks about the admissions process, her favourite courses, and her general impressions.

Many international students choose HSE University as their academic mobility destination. Some travel to Moscow to immerse themselves in a new culture, while others take online mobility options due to pandemic-related restrictions. HSE News Service spoke to three students about their exchange semester at HSE University.

HSE University offers a wide range of online and in-person preparatory programmes for international students, including various Russian language courses for future Bachelor’s and Master’s students, intensive Maths training in Russian, and an English-taught course in Economics. Students come from all over the world, drawn to HSE by the strength of its international reputation and education quality. Several students of this year’s cohort have shared their impressions of the Prep Year programme.

HSE University Rector Nikita Anisimov has given an interview to RBC TV as part of the Eastern Economic Forum. Mr. Anisimov discussed his reception after joining the university, this year’s admissions campaign, working with Yaroslav Kuzminov, global trends in education and new subject areas for HSE University students. Stephen Deduck, from New Jersey, USA, enrolled at HSE University after spending a study-abroad semester in St. Petersburg. He received his Master’s in International Business in 2020 and is now working in an international office of an American university to help other students interested in studying abroad. Stephen spoke to us about the content of the master’s programme, the benefits of learning Russian, and why HSE University is a great choice for international students.
