The Master's Programme in Statistical Learning Theory was launched in 2017. It is run jointly with the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech). The programme trains future scientists to effectively carry out fundamental research and work on new challenging problems in statistical learning theory, one of the most promising fields of science. Yury Kemaev and Maxim Kaledin, from the first cohort of programme graduates, sat down with HSE News Service to talk about their studies and plans for the future.

HSE offers a wide range of master’s programmes for all tastes. There are currently 31 programmes taught entirely in English. Some, such as ‘Financial Analyst’ or Prototyping Future Cities, are more practice-oriented; others pave the way for careers in academia. International students can apply online until August 20.
Coming from Lebanon but with personal ties to Russia, Hisham Haydar will be starting the second year of the Master’s in Economics: Research Programme this September. The strength of HSE University’s standing in international rankings led Hisham to choose HSE in Moscow for his advanced training in economics. Successful applicants may be eligible to receive a full or partial scholarship.
People have already submitted their applications to Master’s and Bachelor’s programmes at HSE University. So far, students from 113 countries have expressed their interest in studying at HSE University. For the 2019/2020 academic year, HSE University is offering 10 Bachelor’s programmes and 31 Master’s programmes taught entirely in English. The strongest applicants will be eligible for full or partial scholarships. For Master’s programmes, applications will be evaluated on the strength of the portfolios that can be submitted online via an applicant’s personal account on HSE University’s website.
The new HSE Master’s programme ‘Law of International Trade, Finance and Economic Integration’ invites applications for the coming 2019-2020 academic year. Qualified students who wish to specialize in international economic law and work in international environments, such as international organizations, international law firms, and international business corporations, are encouraged to apply.
Felipe Vaca Ramirez and Paco Arevalo Reyes, both from Ecuador, are second-year students in HSE’s Master’s programme in ‘Applied Statistics with Network Analysis’. Having heard about Russia’s rich mathematical tradition and the high academic standing of HSE, they both decided to study in Moscow despite how far away from home it is. Felipe and Paco share a background in economics, and the HSE programme’s focus on statistics and data and network analysis was a huge draw for them. Affordable tuition fees and multicultural environment were additional bonuses.
