On July 5, the application window closed for international students who made it through the selection process for state-funded spots at the Higher School of Economics. Those students who were not selected are still able to apply to the university for tuition-paying spots, or can enrol in the university’s Preparatory Year programme.

HSE and LSPR work to create joint Russian-Indonesian programmes

On June 27, the first cohort of HSE Preparatory Year graduates received their diplomas after passing the exams. Launched in 2015, the programme offers international students an excellent opportunity to develop their Russian language skills and prepare for Russian-taught programmes at HSE and other Russian universities. This year, approximately 90 people from over 30 countries studied in the programme, which included several tracks – economics, humanities and science.

Bob Jennekens studied commercial law and STI policy at Maastricht University but worked on his master’s thesis under the supervision of professors from two universities and came to HSE to defend it.

A new English-taught master’s programme ‘Linguistic Theory and Language Description’ starts in the new academic year. Ekaterina Rakhilina, Head of the School of Linguistics, told us about some details of the programme, project work and the potential for international cooperation.

This year, for the first time, international students applying to undergraduate programmes at HSE can take their entrance exams in English. These exams are necessary for admissions to the university’s two English-taught Bachelor’s programmes in Economics and in International Relations. Both programmes are run jointly with the University of London, a long-standing partner of HSE.

Ten students from the Brigham Young University (Utah, USA) have arrived in Nizhny Novgorod for the Summer School on Russian Language and Culture. Between now and midsummer the students will attend lectures on intercultural communication, literature and Russian history as well as improving their knowledge of Russian.

HSE’s volunteer organisation, which is made up of student ‘buddies’ who help foreign students adapt to life in Russia, has become a part of the Erasmus Student Network.

The Master’s programme in System and Software Engineering aims to provide students an opportunity not only to acquire the knowledge and experience they need in their chosen profession, but also to help them generate a systemic view on bringing resolutions to the difficult professional challenges they are certain to face in the future. The newly launched Study in Russia website (studyinrussia.ru) is the most comprehensive online resource for international students interested in higher education in Russia.
