Kamola Talipova from Tashkent has been living in Russia for the past five years. She earned her Bachelor’s degree at HSE University – St. Petersburg and is now pursuing a Master’s degree at the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at the HSE Moscow campus. Kamola spoke with HSE News Service about St. Petersburg and Moscow, the admissions process, and studying online.

Having partner companies is an important factor in the competitiveness of any Master’s programme. One of the partners of the programme ‘Germanica: History and Modernity’, which launched last year at the Faculty of Humanities, is the Russian-German Chamber of Commerce. Already in their first year of study, several students have been hired by the Chamber as interns.

HSE University attracts international students both from countries of the former Soviet Union as well as Europe. Anna Grokhovska (Latvia), a Master’s student at the Institute of Education, and Karina Samokhvalova (Kyrgyzstan) a fourth-year student in the Faculty of Humanities, share their impressions of studying at HSE and living in Moscow.

From February 15 to February 20, HSE University hosted the Study Tour Experience for prospective international students of Master’s programmes. Due to the epidemiological situation, this academic year, the project was held in an online format, which allowed participants to attend lectures by all four HSE campuses within one week without even leaving their home country.

Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) has cancelled a 2-week quarantine for international students arriving in Russia. Starting from February 18, foreign students who were already enrolled in HSE University will be able to arrive to Russia and start their studies (in case they are allowed to cross the border).

Rashid Mustafin came to the Moscow campus of the HSE University from Aksu, Kazakhstan. He is currently in his third year studying Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication in the Faculty of Humanities. Nadezhda Svishcheva is a third-year bachelor’s student in the Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication programme. To attend HSE University, the girl moved from Pavlodar — a small city in north-eastern Kazakhstan where she was born and raised. Amiran Karatsev won the 2020 HSE Global Scholarship Competition (GSC) in Tajikistan in subjects that are not usually taught in high school: philosophy and psychology. Amiran spoke to HSE News Service about the advantages of participating in person, why some of the Competition tasks have no correct answer, and how to not only effectively prepare for it, but have fun while doing it. The Central Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation (ZEvA) determined that the HSE Bachelor’s programme in ‘Sociology’ and the HSE Master’s programme in ‘Comparative Social Research’ meet international educational quality standards. Both programmes have been accredited unconditionally for six years.
