On June 24-26, 2020, the THE Young Universities Summit will be held for the first time at HSE University in Moscow. An official hand off ceremony was held earlier at the University of Surrey, which hosted the event this year. It was not by chance that HSE University was selected to be next year’s summit host—it is the only Russian university that consistently ranks among the THE top 100 young universities, and this year it took 60^th place.

In 2019 the Higher School of Economics has climbed from 84^th to 60^th place in the Time Higher Education (THE) world ranking of young universities. HSE University is the only Russian university to place in the top 100 of this ranking.

HSE University has retained its position in the Top 100 of the Academic Ranking of World Universities, otherwise known as the Shanghai Ranking, in sociology and mathematics. The university improved in political science and has also placed in the same group in economics. At the same time, HSE moved to the next group in management and entered new subject areas – psychology and business administration. HSE is the only Russian university ranked in four subjects: Sociology, Management, Business Administration, and Political Science. HSE University is Russia’s leader in economics and ranks in the same group as Moscow State University in mathematics.

HSE University has improved its position in the QS institutional ranking by 21 places this year, taking 7^th place among Russian universities. The advancement comes thanks to a significant improvement in academic reputation and assessment of university graduates by employers.

Starting on May 20, international students planning to apply to Bachelor’s and Specialist programmes at HSE University can register for the Global Scholarship Competition 2020.

On April 26, the HSE Academic Council approved a charter for the creation of a Board of Trustees in the Faculty of Computer Science. Board members include senior executives from Yandex, JetBrains, SAS, 1C, and Sberbank. The charter for the endowment was approved at the Board’s first meeting, and it will be used by the faculty to fund long-term projects.

The agreement establishes a student- and academic-exchange programme and the opportunity for joint educational and research project development. The agreement was signed on April 8 with the participation of representatives of the government of North Rhine-Westphalia.

If so, faculty members and instructors of the HSE School of Linguistics have worked together to create a free online resource just for you. Как скажешь (‘If You Say So’), which will launch April 4, is a virtual textbook and workbook built around video clips that feature HSE faculty and students. In addition to providing grammar explanations, exercises, and automatic feedback on a variety of thematic and grammar topics, the site devotes special attention to authentic speech—from the type of language used in “elevator small talk” to academic conferences. Videos feature interviews with HSE students about family or travel as well as short lectures by leading HSE professors about their respective fields of expertise.

The new HSE Master’s programme  ‘Law of International Trade, Finance and Economic Integration’ invites applications for the coming 2019-2020 academic year. Qualified students who wish to specialize in international economic law and work in international environments, such as international organizations, international law firms, and international business corporations, are encouraged to apply.
