The HSE Banking Institute welcomes international students from around the world who have expressed growing interest in our Financial Analyst Master’s programme, which is conducted entirely in English and is the only such programme in Russia and the CIS to be recognized by the CFA Institute as a Program Partner. The Banking Institute provides both exchange and Master’s students the opportunity to study best global practice in the areas of investment and financial analysis from a truly global perspective.
HSE is becoming more and more popular among foreign students. We talked to English speaking graduates of the English-taught Master’s programme System and Software Engineering and found out about their experience of studying in HSE, life in Moscow, and what do they do as professionals now.
Prior to coming to St Petersburg, international students may anticipate some difficulty settling into a drastically new culture and lifestyle, and completing the more mundane tasks, such as navigating the transport system. A group of 20 undergraduates from the United States visited St. Petersburg, 'the northern Venice', this January, taking part in a programme that blended the history, society and culture of the Russian Empire’s capital. Participants arrived from Mount Holyoke College and Smith College, opting to spend two weeks of their winter holidays here (6 – 22 January) learning about this city. Participants were diverse in their fields of studies, Russian knowledge, and travel experience, some even choosing this trip as their first chance to travel outside the borders of the United States.
After completing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Engineering in his native Delhi, India, Shashank Pant began searching for a Master’s programme that would provide a balance between management and science. HSE’s Governance in STI programme turned out to be what he was looking for as he prepares for an eventual career in innovation at a multinational corporation.
In March 2017, International Olympiad Competitions will be held for perspective students interested in studying in Master’s programmes at HSE University. All current undergraduate students and recent university graduates students interested in pursuing a Master’s degree are invited to participate.

HSE’s Preparatory Year trains international students with little or no knowledge of Russian before they begin Russian-taught full-degree programs. Over 10 months of intensive study, students improve their language skills (reading, listening, speaking, and writing), study in a chosen academic field (humanities, economics, or engineering), and adapt to the new educational environment. Upon completing the Preparatory Year, students are expected to possess intermediate-level Russian language skills and be ready to enter Russian-taught full-degree programmes at HSE and other Russian universities.
Aditya Haryo Proboncono, a 27-year-old Indonesian graduate of the University of Indonesia with a Bachelor in Humanities, is currently enrolled at in the HSE School of Asian Studies where he is enjoying courses in the culture, language, history, as well as political and economic development of Asian countries.
HSE - Nizhny Novgorod offers a Master's programme 'Global Business' which is taught in English in collaboration with Johannes Kepler University (Austria) and University of Bergamo (Italy). Students from these educational institutions have got a chance to study one semester in Russia, and other semesters – at partner universities in Austria and Italy.
