HSE University has advanced to the 801-900 group in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), also known as the Shanghai Ranking and now ranks in the 7th-8th place among Russian universities. Moreover, HSE University is the only Russian university to improve its standing in the ranking this year.

HSE University has risen from fourth to third place in the Superjob University Ranking in terms of the salaries made by young professionals in the legal field who graduated in 2014–2019. According to the ranking’s authors, our graduates can expect to earn an average of 100,000 rubles a month in Moscow.
Among Russian universities, HSE University has the second highest number of subjects to be included in the Shanghai subject ranking (Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2020). HSE University and ITMO University, respectively, are included in 7 subject rankings, while Moscow State University is represented in 12 subject rankings.
For three years already, HSE University has appeared in the Top-5 of Russia’s best universities according to the RAEX Ranking. In terms of demand for graduates among employers, HSE University has risen to the second place, while also improving its indicator for ‘environment for high-quality learning’.
HSE University took 298th place in the 2021 QS World University Rankings, improving its ranking by 24 positions compared to last year and entering the first quartile of the world’s leading universities. HSE University now ranks among the world’s top 300 universities in two international rankings: the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
In the Expert Analytical Centre’s 2020 Publication Activity Ranking, HSE University placed among the top three Russian universities in seven general subject areas and two narrow subjects. HSE made the rankings in 14 subject areas and four specific subjects; of these, HSE placed first in four subjects and/or areas.
In a new RAEX Analytics ranking that evaluates Russian universities in terms of their societal influence, HSE took third place, leading the list in terms of popularity among young people and taking second place in terms of online influence.
This year, HSE University has entered four additional QS World University Rankings by Subject, thereby bringing its grand total of represented broad and specific subject areas to 23. HSE ranks in 19 of the 38 subject rankings that include Russian universities, as well as in four of the ranking’s five broad subject areas. HSE is among the world’s top 100 universities in five subjects, including History and Social Policy & Administration, where it has entered the rankings for the first time.
Today’s publication of four international subject area rankings in the life sciences, physical sciences, psychology, and medical and health sciences by the Times Higher Education (THE) marks the end of this year’s rankings cycle, which includes the four major world rankings—THE, QS, ARWU, and U.S. News & World Report.
HSE took 94th place in the THE ranking in Business & Economics, outperforming all the other Russian universities in this subject. In addition, the university entered the ranking in Law for the first time (151+ cohort), becoming the only Russian university represented there.
