How to Fill in Online Application Form

Step 1. Receive login and password

  • Please visit this site: for Bachelor's or Master's.
  • To register for a login and password, please click “Get login and password”.
  • After you click “Get login and password”, a box will appear with fields for registration details.
  • In the fields “Last name”, “First name”, and “Middle name”, please enter your full name in Latin characters. This information must fully match that on your identification documents (passport, ID card, etc.).
  • Please enter your date of birth in the format DD/MM/YYYY (for example, if you were born on January 2, 1998, you would enter 02.01.1998).
  • In the field “Gender”, please select your gender.
  • In the field “E-mail”, please enter your primary email address that you would like us to use when contacting you. Please note that your login and password will be sent to this email address. If you have incorrectly entered your email address, you will need to register again with your correct email address.
  • Please enter your full phone number, including your country code and area code.
  • In the field “What type of programme are you applying for?”, please note whether you are applying to bachelor’s programmes or master’s programmes.
  • After you have completed all fields, please click “Submit application”.
  • If this is the first time that you are registering for a login and password, you will receive the following message: Congratulations! Your application has been submitted. Now it is pending further review. We will send you an answer by E-Mail. If you have already registered and are trying to register again, you will receive an error message.
  • Within three days you will receive an email containing your registration login and password.

Step 2. Completing the Application Form

  • Please visit the page for Bachelor's or Master's
  • Enter the login and password that you received by following the instructions in Step I. After entering your login and password, click “Sign in” and your online application form will appear.

If you receive a message that you have incorrectly entered your login and password, please check that what you have entered fully matches the information that you received. If you still cannot log in, please email the moderator for support.

  • Your personal details will be in the upper corner of your online application page. This is the information that you submitted when registering for a login and password. The system may also add other information if you have already participated in other HSE projects.

If you must update your personal details, please click “Update details”. You will have access to update the following fields: last name, first name, middle name, date of birth, gender, e-mail, and mobile (cell) phone number.

After updating your personal details, please click “Submit application”. You will receive the following message: 'Your request is waiting to be reviewed. Your updated information will be sent to the moderator. Within two business days, your changes will be either accepted or rejected.'

After your updated personal details are accepted, a message confirming this will be sent to the e-mail address that you used to register.

  • After you have made sure that your personal details are correct, please begin to fill out the application form.
  • In the field “Country of birth”, please select the country where you were born.
  • In the field “Citizenship”, please select your citizenship. If you have two or more citizenships, please select the one that you consider your primary citizenship.
  • In the field “Type of place of birth”, please select the most relevant option. If you are unsure of what to enter, please select “City”.
  • In the field “Place of birth”, please enter your place of birth.
  • In the field “Country of residency”, please select the country where you permanently live. For example, if you study in Russia but are a legal resident of Belarus, please select Belarus.
  • In the field “Type of place of residency”, please select the most relevant option. If you are unsure of what to enter, please select “City”.

  • In the field “Type of identification document”, please select the most relevant option.

  • In the field “Permanent address”, please enter your permanent address, excluding country and city. For example, 25 Main Street, apartment 8.
  • In the field “Current address”, please enter your current address, excluding country and city, if it is different from your permanent address.
  • In the field “Skype”, please enter your Skype username. If Skype does not work well in your country or is blocked, please enter your Google Talk username and “GT”.
  • In the field “Country of institution”, please select the country where you studied.
  • In the field “Type of place of institution”, please select the most relevant option. If you are unsure of what to enter, please select “City”.
  • In the field “Address of institution”, please enter the address of the institution where you studied.
  • In the field “Name of institution that you graduated/will graduate from”, please enter the name of your institution.
  • In the field “Date of graduation”, please enter the year when you will graduate or when you graduated.   
  • In the field “Highest level of education attained”, please select the highest level of education you have attained.
  • In the field “University grading system”, please enter your institution’s grading system (for example, 4.0, 100, etc.)
  • In the field “Grade point average”, please enter your grade point average. If you are graduating in 2017, please calculate your grade point average for your last two years of study.
  • In the field “Thesis topic”, please provide brief information about your final thesis or a major academic project that you produced in 500 words or less.
  • In the field “Thesis abstract”, please upload a copy of your thesis or final academic project as a PDF file.
  • In the “Type of diploma”, please select the most relevant option.
  • In the field “Upload academic transcript and diploma”, please upload a scan of your official academic transcript and diploma. If you have not yet received your diploma, please upload only your most recent academic transcript. If your transcript and diploma are not in English or Russian, please also submit a translation into either English or Russian. The file should follow the naming convention “LASTNAME_transcript/diploma” or “LASTNAME_transcript” and be either a PDF or JPG file.
  • Please check the field “Studied in English-taught programme” if you have studied in an English-taught programme.
  • If you have received another degree, please provide corresponding information.
  • Before selecting the education programmes that you wish to apply to, please choose the language that you wish to study in (either Russian or English).
  • After you have indicated the language that you wish to study in, please select from the list which education programmes you wish to apply to.

Please note that after the name of each education programme is the name of the department and campus. By default, you will be considered for a full-tuition scholarship, as long as this option is relevant to the programme that you are applying to. If you would like to be considered as a fee-paying candidate (with the potential for tuition discounts), please check the box next to “Fee-paying”. Please click on the name of the programme you are applying to so that it is highlighted in green.

If you would like to be considered for another programme, please select your second choice by clicking on “Second choice”.

  • In the field “Letter of motivation”, please upload your letter of motivation. The file should follow the naming convention “LASTNAME_letter” and be either a PDF or JPG file.
  • If you would like to be considered for education programmes at other HSE campuses (St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Perm), please indicate which campuses you would be interested in studying at.
  • In the field “Have you previously applied to HSE?”, please indicate whether you have previously submitted an application.
  • In the field “How did you learn about HSE?”, please indicate the primary way that you found out about HSE.
  • In the field “Recommendation letter”, please upload a recommendation letter, if the programme you are applying to requires one. Please note that recommendation letters should include the recommender’s first and last names, contact information, and professional affiliation. The HSE Admissions Committee may contact your recommender to confirm your recommendation letter.
  • In the field “Publications”, please upload any publications as a single PDF file, if the programme you are applying to requires one.
  • In the field “Russian language proficiency”, please choose the option that best corresponds with your knowledge of Russian.
  • In the field “Certificate or exam results confirming Russian language proficiency”, please upload the corresponding file following in the naming convention “LASTNAME_RUtest” and be either a PDF or or JPG file. If Russian is your native language, you are not required to upload a certificate or results.
  • In the field “English language proficiency”, please choose the option that best corresponds with your knowledge of English.
  • In the field “Certificate or exam results confirming English language proficiency”, please upload the corresponding file following in the naming convention “LASTNAME_ENtest” and be either a PDF or or JPG file. If English is your native language, you are not required to upload a certificate or results.
  • In the field “Other languages”, please indicate the other languages that you know and your level of proficiency. For example, “German – basic” and “Spanish – fluent”.
  • In the field “Certificate or exam results confirming language proficiency”, please upload any corresponding files following in the naming convention “LASTNAME_test” and be either a PDF or or JPG file.           
  • In the field “Would you like to apply for HSE's Preparatory Year (Russian-language training)”, please check the box if you are interested in being considered for Preparatory Year.
  • In the field “Previous study at HSE”, please select any HSE programmes or events that you have participated in.
  • In the field “Participation in other programmes at HSE”, please indicate any other HSE programmes or events that you may have participated in.
  • In the field “Current employer”, please enter your current employer (if you are currently employed).
  • In the field “Resume”, please upload your resume as a PDF or or JPG file.
  • In the field “Presentations at academic conferences and events (past 3 years)”, please list any presentations that you have delivered at academic conferences or events in the past three years, if the programme that you are applying to requires this.
  • In the field “Other achievements”, please indicate any addition information that you wish to be considered by the HSE Admissions Committee.

 

After you have completed all fields, checked your application, and uploaded all files, you must click the button “Submit application”. If everything is correctly completed, the application will be sent to the moderator for review and within three days to the HSE Admissions Committee for the programme(s) that you are applying to.

A message will be sent to the e-mail address that you registered with confirming the receipt of your application.
