Research Projects for the Postdoctoral Track
A postdoctoral position is a temporary academic role that allows PhD holders to continue their training as researchers and acquire the skills and experience necessary for an academic career. Postdoctoral researchers work under the supervision of a senior mentor within a research team. They conduct research either as part of an existing project or independently, and are expected to publish the results. Postdocs are also involved in academic activities such as mentoring graduate students, writing grant proposals, and teaching.
The International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development (ICSID) at HSE University, founded by Andrei Yakovlev and Timothy M. Frye, brings together Russian and international scholars in the fields of economics and political science. ICSID researchers are affiliated with the Institute for Industrial and Market Studies (IIMS) at the Higher School of Economics and the Harriman Institute at Columbia University, as well as institutions such as the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, Emory University, George Washington University, and Trinity College. The Center, established in 2011 with support from the Russian government, collaborates closely with various HSE departments, including the Faculty of Economic Sciences and several international research laboratories.
In 2025, ICSID researchers are working on the project "Institutions, Human Capital and Regional Development: Historical Analysis and Contemporary Challenges." This research focuses on how institutions and human capital influence regional development in Russia, with an emphasis on historical dynamics, economic shocks, and professional groups.
